I've been approached by several clients wanting to know which diet they should follow for fast, effective weightloss. Until 10 months ago I rode the weightloss roller coaster along with over 40% of the population so I'm well acquainted with many of the popular diets.
One of the first diets I tried was the Slim-Fast diet while I was still in high school. I was struggling to lose 5 lbs to get into my size 3 Calvin Kleins...those were the days! On this diet I drank a shake for breakfast and lunch, and then ate a sensible dinner. I shudder at what I considered sensible back then. Fortunately I was able to lose the weight and wore the "perfect" jeans to the big game, but the weight crept back on.
In college I was up to a size 8 and heard about a diet where you could eat whatever you wanted for 5 days out of the week as long as you fasted on the weekends. Well, being in college, fasting on the weekends just didn't work so I fasted on Monday and Tuesday. Of course I was light-headed, cranky and tired every Monday and Tuesday for a whole semester. I even fell asleep in an economics lecture! I lost and regained the same 8 lbs for months and was obsessed with the scale. It wasn't a permanent solution.
I briefly tried Weight-Watchers in college. This was just at the advent of the points system and the whole thing seemed pretty complicated. I wasn't into sitting in meetings and public weigh-ins and it seemed expensive at $12/week back then. My weight continued to climb as I graduated and quickly became pregnant with my son. I gained 70 lbs with the pregnancy and was young and dumb enough to think it would all go away quickly with delivery and breast-feeding. By the third day after delivery I had lost 35 lbs. That was good news, but still left 35+ lbs of fat, and the distribution seemed to have changed!
I stuck to a "sensible diet" while breastfeeding my son and only lost 10 lbs over the 9 months. I decided enough was enough and went on a diet I saw in one of those tabloid magazines by the grocery store checkout - the cabbage soup diet. I stayed on that diet for two weeks, eating nothing but cabbage soup, morning, noon and night. The thought of boiled cabbage still makes me nauseous! I lost weight but I also developed bronchitis and gained the weight back when I recovered.
Another baby followed by another desperation diet, this time the Hollywood juice diet. My sister had used it to lose a few lbs before her wedding so I thought I'd try it. While tastier then the cabbage diet I actually felt worse on the juice diet. I simply didn't have the energy to keep up with my two kids so I gave up in less than a week.
I won't bore you with further details but over the next 16 years if there was a diet popularized in a magazine, by Oprah or online, I tried it. I lost up to 50 lbs over and over and over, never able to keep my weight stable for more than a couple of weeks.
10 months ago I heard about a
diet plan and like all of the other diets I heard of I decided to try it. Something almost magical happened, I started to lose weight, not just the 1 or 2 lbs a week I'd seen on previous diets but up to 12 lbs in a week. By the second week I had to go shopping because my pants simply didn't fit. After a mere 60 days I could fit into a size 8 - single digits baby! Needless to say I was thrilled and so was my husband. People whom I hadn't seen in months or years didn't recognize me. I felt like a new person, inside and out.
This was by far the simplest "plan" I have ever followed. In fact it's so simple and natural I hesitate to even call it a plan. I've personally heard simply amazing weight loss stories from others who have tried it. Imagine the joy of someone who's been relegated to the dark corner of the department store designated "Womens" for 30 years finally able to shop in the Misses Department - I saw it, and we cried together.
It worked for me and many others,
